Collingwood Girls Hockey Association
The Collingwood Girls Hockey Association was established in 2017. What started with 30 female players has grown to nearly 300 in 6 years.
Our players reside in Collingwood, Clearview, Wasaga Beach, and beyond. Our local players participate within the Simcoe Muskoka Girls Hockey League and our competitive players participate in the Ontario Women's Hockey Southern League.
Our Lightning organization recognizes the challenges ahead and we are deeply concerned about our ability to provide ice time as we continue to grow. With 16 teams, and a strong Fundamentals Program, we have reached capacity.
As mid-week ice is limited for practices and weekends are set aside for travel and games, we will not be able to accommodate further growth with the current Collingwood facilities. We are already sourcing outside ice for our teams.
The Collingwood Girls Hockey Association contributes more to our community than just producing hockey players. Our program includes building female leadership among our volunteer staff, offering a co-ed student mentorship program, annual fundraisers for My Friends House Women and Childrens Shelter, and a number of other local charities.
Our athletes attend and promote community events and we support our athletes as they pursue additional sports and recreation activities. We do our very best to produce good citizens that will become productive members of the community, and ultimately give back.
Building a multiuse facility isn't just about brick and mortar. It's about people, community, strong relationships and the health and well-being of all Collingwood and area residents. COLGHA Lightning support this endeavor.
