About Us

The Collingwood Sport and Recreation Alliance envisions a vibrant and active community where people of all ages can come together to engage in various sport and recreational activities. We propose the development of a progressive multi-use facility to address current limitations faced by the Town of Collingwood. This initiative will foster well-being, community bonding, and enhanced quality of life.

The CSRA functions as a collaborative consortium representing diverse not-for-profit community sports organizations within the Collingwood region. These clubs collectively offer comprehensive year-round sports initiatives, encompassing both competitive and recreational pursuits, thereby catering to a substantial number of local youths.

Addressing limited Ice time

Collingwood currently faces a significant challenge in meeting the demand for ice time. By investing in a multi-use recreational facility, we aim to alleviate this issue by providing additional ice rinks, allowing more individuals and teams to participate in ice sports such as hockey and figure skating. This expansion will facilitate increased access and more flexibility in ice scheduling to enable greater participation and skill development in youth and adults.

Providing Indoor Turf Capabilities

The absence of an indoor turf field in Collingwood limits the opportunities for individuals to engage in related activities during the non-summer months. The proposed multi-use recreational facility will offer indoor opportunity for soccer, rugby, and baseball training and/or leagues. By providing these facilities, we aim to encourage year-round physical activity and ensure that residents have access to enjoyable and healthy pursuits regardless of weather conditions.

Providing Indoor Court Capabilities

With the current demands on high school gymnasiums to satisfy court sports (and as an substitute to turf fields), it is critical to provide indoor hardwood courts for such sports as basketball and volleyball. Further it allows for other recreational based sports and activities, including pickleball. Again, this space helps to provide year round ability for many sports and recreational activities.

Enhancing Swimming Opportunities

Collingwood's current swimming pool capabilities fall short in meeting the community's needs. By incorporating an upgraded swimming pool within the multi-use recreational facility, we can offer increased pool space, modern amenities, and specialized areas for swimming lessons, recreational swimming, and competitive events.

Increased access to sports and recreational activities will promote a healthy and active lifestyle, reducing the risk of chronic diseases.
  • Skill Development and Team Building: The facilitywill offer opportunities for individuals to develop and enhance their skills in various sports. Children and youth will have access to coaching, training programs, and organized leagues, fostering discipline, teamwork, and personal growth. In many cases, these opportunities can be provided on a year-round basis.
  • Community Engagement: The multi-use recreational facility will serve as a hub for community gatherings, fostering social connections and a sense of belonging. Sporting events, tournaments, and recreational programs will bring people together, strengthening community bonds and promoting a shared passion for sports.
  • Economic Growth: The facility will attract visitors from neighboring communities, stimulating the local economy through increased tourism and spending on accommodations, restaurants, and retail. Moreover, hosting regional and provincial sports events will bring further economic benefits to Collingwood.

Investing in a multi-use recreational facility is a crucial step towards meeting the diverse needs of the Town of Collingwood. By addressing the limited ice times, providing an indoor turf field and additioanl court space, and enhancing swimming pool capabilities, this facility will create a lasting positive impact on the physical, social, and economic well-being of children, youth, and adults in the community. Together, we can build a healthier, more active, and connected Collingwood for generations to come.
